no, then you really didn't understand anything... I REJECT EVERYTHING THAT MTV HAS EVER BROADCASTED OR TRANSMITTED. clear now? I hate that music! then we misunderstood, when I said hardcore I didn't mean that club stuff!!!!!!!! I didn't even consider that, it's something horrific!!! Hardcore is also (and above all) another genre that has produced a remarkable amount of masterpieces! It can be considered a sort of acceleration of punk. Have you ever heard of Fugazi, Butthole Surfers, Husker Du, Misfits, Gun Club, and Slint?
going back to the bands you mentioned, ARE YOU AWARE THAT THEY ARE ALL EITHER HARD ROCK, METAL, OR PROGRESSIVE? your close-mindedness is impressive, you might be missing out. now it's my turn to list the bands:
Robert Wyatt, Gong, Henry Cow, Soft Machine, Kevin Ayers, Mike Oldfield for the Canterbury school (you said you don't know it, you don't know what you're missing); Fugazi, Minutemen, Butthole Surfers, Ramones, Husker Du, Camper Van Beethoven, Gun Club, Clash, and Slint for punk and hardcore (not that club stuff!!!!); Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead for the San Francisco acid rock: Pink Floyd, Van Der Graaf Generator, and King Crimson for progressive; Metallica and Type O Negative (you don't know them, right? and you find that strange, well, just know that in the metal field they are the best) for metal; Faust, Neu!, Amon Düül, Can, Kraftwerk for Kraut-rock; Pere Ubu, Suicide, Residents, Pop Group, Chrome for the new wave.
others I find stupid and unnecessary to categorize, in random order are Captain Beefheart, Sonic Youth, Tim Buckley, Frank Zappa, Royal Trux, Red Crayola, Pixies, Foetus, Dirty Three, Klaus Schulze, Popol Vuh, John Fahey, Leonard Cohen, Third Ear Band, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Swans, Tortoise, Brian Eno, Syd Barrett, Patti Smith, Velvet Underground, Lisa Germano, Vampire Rodents, Nico, Nick Cave, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Tangerine Dream, Doors. I'm sure I forgot someone... and I haven't talked about all the classical and jazz music I listen to (mostly because I got tired of writing).
