And why couldn't I say that my favorite is the Ninth? Let's see... instead, the Ninth is really my favorite; it's objectively his most complete work, and not just among the symphonies. The Seventh is also excellent, and the Fifth, of course, but I have a particular fondness for the Sixth, especially the first and third movements (the "Tempest" is fantastic too!). These four are the symphonies I mainly prefer, the Third and Eighth are good as well. The remaining ones (First, Second, and Fourth) I consider decidedly inferior, but that doesn't make them negligible. Among the concertos, I prefer Piano Concerto No. 5 and the violin concertos, while for the sonatas, Nos. 31 and 32. Happy now?

Johann Sebastian Bach Toccata, Adagio e Fuga BWV 564

@OleEinar. Why shouldn’t Bach be rated? What exempts him from ratings? Explain it to me. This attitude (not just yours) where classical music is regarded as inherently better than rock (or jazz, or avant-garde, or whatever you prefer) really annoys me. Very often it is, but it is absolutely wrong to consider it so inherently. I can name dozens of rock albums that are better than classical works; there are definitely more classical works that are better than rock albums, I completely agree. But why shouldn’t it be fair to evaluate them on the same rating scale? I think, in reality, people are just afraid of what I’m saying: if we started using the same rating scale for these so-called “greats” of classical music as we do for rock albums, many rock albums would consequently see their ratings significantly lowered, highlighting the notable limits that we have intentionally (perhaps unconsciously) hidden. As if rock music could be allowed a few more flaws. There are people on this site giving 5 stars to anything that walks by. Don’t you think that if they started giving 5 stars to a classical masterpiece as well, they would rate rock albums with a bit more objectivity?
