Motorpsycho Phanerothyme

Queen, your reflection is wise, even though I think we should also consider a "segment" and not necessarily look at and judge the whole.
For my almost namesake: Lobotomizer is difficult to categorize. Raw, funny, messy, angry... something that has its own reason, its own strength, but I rarely listen to it.
Anyway, Frances is an incredible track considering the time.

Then another thing... If Phanerothyme gets 5 stars, how many should Blissard get? ..12??? And Timothy's Monster 14???

I totally agree with the lemur, but this isn’t a stance... just a reflection.
Am I the only crazy one who sometimes blasts "Another ugly ep" or "8 soothings Songs for Rut"? :)

Slim, ...overrated??? :) Sure, there’s the 2.5 rating for the album, but ...remove those 4 masterpieces released in '90, and then let's see what most bands from half of Europe would sound like now (as you claim). And would that be a drawback? Of course the King Crimson influences are there and how, just like many others from the '70s, but the quotationism is mainly noticeable in their latest period. Before, they were "motorpsycho," a volcano of emotions in the form of sounds that defined a moment. It's a bit like saying "well, Dinosaur Jr or Sonic Youth are overrated."

But in fact, just like yours.. mine was also a shareable opinion or not. I respect your love for the album in question, but for me, the aforementioned ranks among the 2 or 3 least beautiful of their long series of masterpieces. The same goes for It's a love cult.
For years now, I no longer expect from them works like Angels and Daemon, Trust, Blissard..etc (let alone Timothy's) Those belong to their golden age, something that perhaps should remain well sealed in that wonderful package from the 90s.
They will always remain the best, even if by now seeing them live is more a matter of tradition.
And if only there were more traditions like that...

I agree with Alessio. I’m one of those classic fans of MP who have been hooked for years, with 24 original CDs, 8 or 9 concerts, and a trip to Trondheim, etc... (okay, I’m showing off) and honestly, this album doesn’t reach the excellent levels of the previous ones, Let Them Eat Cake (a turning point, but still appreciable) and Trust Us. Phanerothyme flows well enough, but aside from 2 or 3 outstanding tracks, it has never really managed to engage me. I keep thinking back to when Bent, instead of hitting most of the vocal notes like he does in this album, would miss them big time but unleashed something special along with his two loyal companions that I consider unique and unattainable (think Timothy's M and Blissard).

But is there still so much talk about grunge these days? Either way, A.I.C. were my ideal band 15 years ago; I worshipped Staley and every track on this great album. Also check out the EP "SAP," with monstrous tracks like "Got me Wrong"… for those still in search of those sounds that, alas, I now struggle to dust off (perhaps only out of fear of falling into a nostalgia trip).
Elliott Smith New Moon

Elliot was a great artist (instead, the review is a review? At least it should make you laugh a little.. anyway).
Those who want to know E.S. should definitely listen to "XO," a fantastic album.

I saw them live in August in Cagliari, by pure chance. They have a nice sound, great dynamics, but after 3 songs I was at the bar ordering a drink... This doesn’t mean they’re boring; they know how to use their instruments and they know how to perform on stage, but I struggled to find something interesting after enjoying the beginning of the concert.
Marco Masini T'innamorerai

After this review, I would be tempted to talk about the transfer market to switch to less sad topics. What can I say, Masini is great... it's a shame he decided to become a singer.
