Whether it's from the '60s or the '90s, you're always a great archaeologist, Lewis! From what I've found online, they look nice. A mandatory greeting to that old fool Azzo as well.

As for how many bands were saying the same thing, it seems to me that this is more valid now, with the trend of shoegaze-wave revival, than it was back then. At that time, there were 3 major bands expressing the "shoegaze" sound in different ways, along with a few others that ranged from very good to decent, all operating within those coordinates. So I really don't see all these bands saying the same thing.

Ah, there it is, that one was yours too, so double congratulations then :) Since you’re at it, there’s a big gap to fill in the de-database, that masterpiece Going Blank Again by Ride... just throwing it out there :)

A de-review that's beautiful, I love these recoveries in the sea of shoegaze (I recently recall another nice piece on the underrated Pale Saints). I adore the genre, but for some reason, I've never considered them.

Well, the first one was a gem, no doubt about it. I saw them live last winter and they put on a great show (unlike the Foo).

Finally, someone who speaks (and does so well) about this somewhat forgotten group. "In Ribbons" is even better.

I don't think it's a good thing that they have abandoned the path of psychedelia for a more conventional hard rock. The enormous potential they had shown in "Rites of Uncovering" remains largely unexpressed. There are still some good tracks (especially "Song of the Nile"), vintage sounds that are stunning, and Heumann's beautiful voice, but there’s also a bit of a bitter taste left. I'll give it a 3.5, which I’ll round up to 4 for goodwill.

This is indeed a strange thing. At Unwound a year ago, I came out with my ears ringing.

But where do you find these groups?
