Arbouretum Song Of The Pearl

But indeed, what I don’t like (for now) about Grizzly is not their being melodic (I like a lot of melodic bands) but rather their being too syrupy and slightly cloying for me. Exactly the same reason why I’ve never been able to stomach Fleet Foxes so far. Then again, it's clearly very much a matter of taste; I don't deny the quality of the melodies and arrangements of Grizzly, but, much like Psycho, at the first track I shouted out (half) miracle, and by the halfway point of the album I was already bored to tears. And anyway, in this Arbouretum, the ā€œblastsā€ and ā€œslashesā€ are definitely present, seasoned with a certain dose of psychedelia that I like. Not to mention that I adore Heumann’s voice, while the vocal intertwining of Grizzly Bear sometimes raises my blood sugar dangerously above safe levels. That said, it remains for me a partial disappointment and a significant step back compared to "Rites." The rest, I fear, is mostly a matter of taste...

azzuccio, I find Grizzly Bear a bit too orchestral and poppy for my taste; from what I've heard, my fingers get stuck on the keyboard when there's too much gooeyness ;-)

@doc, :-) I'm ahead of your similar ones! But you’re not even among mine, mysteries of DeB! Anyway, I’ll follow your advice and I’ll also download your favorite vetiver!

They seem interesting. They played around my area not long ago, but I snubbed them; I will look for something.

Oh my God, I didn't realize that Heumann is the same as the one from Human Bell (AMAZING!), great story ;-) Anyway, yes, also the debut by Arbouretum, which is never mentioned, deserves a listen.

Finally, someone did it! I really like them; they have a sound that makes your mouth water. I didn’t dislike this new one, but compared to the previous, stunning work, it left me with a bit of a bitter taste. It's a more direct album, yes, but it also seemed a little less inspired to me. I mean, "Rites" was an album that raised the pubic hairs, this is "only" a nice album. Let’s say that the 4 stars are a bit rounded up. Happy New Year, Super, it's always a pleasure to read you.

Mmm yes, now it's there but I still can't see it, who knows! Anyway, what do you think of the albums I've listed?

Nice grin-worthy page. I'm also approaching the new new new wave revival with caution, as it seems that's all there is now. Some things don't really bother me after all. These from the links you included don't seem bad.

Well, some nice albums have come out this year too, come on, and I hardly follow the latest releases. And not all of them have bad artwork anyway (six Organs of Admittance, Bonnie Prince Billy, Pontiak, Radio Moscow, Left Lane Cruiser...). Psycho, we want your top list of 2009 for sure!
