I could never stomach even the highly acclaimed previous one, so much boredom and so much excess sugar. But maybe if I listened to them again I might change my mind, who knows. The review is perfect.

I agree with both what you say about Explosions and the encore issue (as for Godspeed: well, if they had done an encore after 2 hours and 15 minutes of concert, it would have been too much!)

Always nice to see a review of Psycho on the homepage; they bring a smile and encourage listening to great things. This year, several albums I like have come out, but I’m mostly talking about shoegaze revivals. @psycho, what do you think of the latest Akron/Family? I wanted to listen to it, but after seeing them live last week, I lost the urge: one of the most boring concerts ever.

Uh, I was there too! We need to have the meetings, damn it. I didn't cry, but it was a great concert, better than the Mogwai one in March (with a totally unbalanced setlist towards the latest album and without even one song from the two best), but not as unattainable as the Godspeed one in January (I saw all three at Estragon). I'm only partially in agreement with Bartle, in the sense that I see the proposal from Explosions as a "trivialization" or "simplification" of the far more disruptive and innovative approaches of Mogwai and Godspeed. However, from an emotional standpoint, they might even be superior to Mogwai; the melodies are melancholic but almost never cloying, and the "explosions" are definitely there, especially in a live setting. @seagull, no, they didn't play it, but they did perform "The Only Moment We Were Alone," which I think is even better. Here's the setlist: Explosions in the Sky Concert Setlist at Estragon, Bologna on May 29, 2011 | setlist.fm @pollo, what do you think of the "denied encore"? It's something they've always done, at least on this tour, but many didn't like it.

Shit, I still need to "get it" somehow; everyone writes about it so well. In any case, I don't think Low is capable of making a bad album; they haven't done one in 17 years. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: among the bands born in the '90s and still active, they are perhaps the one with the best overall discography: a ton of great albums, at least a couple of masterpieces, no drop in quality. Huge. Great review.

Sorry Bartle, but am I remembering wrong or when we entered they were practically finishing their set? I don’t really remember, but maybe it was due to the fresh and healthy atmosphere of Unwound that evening :) Anyway, I agree with Bartle's advice about the 3 from Orebro, he really knows his stuff on these matters. Oh my God, Jex Thoth, what memories! There were some hilarious comments on I don’t remember which review, if I'm not mistaken Trell was even there... In fact, I listened to them properly and, despite the girl’s voice being a bit cheesy over the mussels, they’re not that bad. You should review them :)
