Before 2000, very few people cared about the Ramones, and they always had trouble selling records. I have no doubt that from "London Calling" the Clash elevate themselves beyond simple punk, and that musically they were superior to the Ramones; I just think that without the Ramones, many bands wouldn't have existed.
