Well, there are plenty of punk bands that played for themselves without ever achieving success, like the Casualties and New Bomb Turks mentioned by Gigi. Anyway, it's pointless to name names. As for Metallica, I've never liked them; I've tried several times to listen to Master of Puppets, but I've never enjoyed it, unlike albums like Reign in Blood or Vulgar Display of Power. Yes, I really like thrash; maybe it's because it's 50x100 punk.

In my opinion, that is not as a true metal connoisseur (even though I know a bit about thrash), I believe that Metallica has made thrash very commercial, much like Blink did with pop-punk. Now, I don't want to come off as someone who vehemently defends them; it's clear to everyone that they have gotten rich with their punk attitude and overly catchy choruses. However, there are also very similar situations in metal, so it's not fair to speak too recklessly.

I prefer "Cheshire Cat" and "Enema of the State," anyway it's nice, and I owe them, they introduced me to punk when I was just a little kid..to Ktulu, if your mom and your dog know bands like Buzzcocks and Descendents, congrats to them, but if they don't know them, don't talk nonsense for no reason..
