I agree with KindOfBlue... when you get books in hand, this left and right disappear. Page 95 of "NORD": << I am anarchic, like yesterday and tomorrow, and I really couldn’t care less about opinions! >> If the only people capable of thinking that Celine is just another angry little fascist are those geniuses over at la Destra.it... consequently, those idiots consider Celine to be on the right, but Celine has always portrayed himself as anarchic... he has stated it at least in ten different writings and yet they continue. Nietzsche is not on the right, D'Annunzio is just an idiot with some cognitive problems... so yes, on the right.

Celine is not on the right. With "Journey to the End of the Night," he was even accused of communism. The Vichy regime left him alone because he was considered too "nihilist" by the Nazi hierarchy. Talk about hobbits, fairies, and wizards, but leave serious matters alone.

Celine is right-wing? You would like that. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Do you think a guy like me pays to see stuff from pugnettari? Are you kidding?

I always considered myself too smart for the fantasy crap from hardcore nerds. I only watched the first half of the movie, then I stepped out to smoke. That night, I realized that in addition to being intelligent, I'm also shrewd.

I remember him at Bari, but I also remember him at Napoli and his season to forget ;)

Captain, I am convinced that an artist (I can hardly believe that artists exist, but let's call them that for convenience) should be judged by their supposed minor works. The reason is simple: any Igor Protti can happen to become the top scorer in Serie A, not everyone can consistently score at least 18-20 goals a season. Casse-pipe, but in general anything I’ve read from Celine (we're close to the whole thing), does not belong to the minor production... all of it has its reason... as you say, an existential reason (like in the Journey), stylistic (like in the Northern Trilogy... I believe no one will be able to write in that way again, to give that sense of disorientation that comes with the end of World War II), political (like in the pamphlets that are splendid in their arrogance).

Well... I slightly prefer the journey, but the level is so high that it’s just mental gymnastics. I recommend "From One Castle to Another"... almost impossible to read because it's so disjointed and mistreated, a product of a dying and forgotten Céline. Currently, I’m devouring "Nord," and it seems to me like a half masterpiece... a journey through Nazi Germany. There are pages that... I don’t know, indefinable.

But if we had to rank (thankfully we don't have to) the writers of the 20th century... well, the ranking wouldn't exist. Céline is light-years ahead of everyone else. Even today, we are not ready for Céline. Lemuro, if you are a fan of his, I particularly recommend it to you. Casse-pipe was written between "Mea Culpa" and "Bagatelle pour un massacre," and the prose is just that: rough, swift, insane. I particularly recommend it to you (can we say that?) if you are attached (like I am, after all... enough to dedicate a thesis in Political Philosophy to him) to the person Céline. Casse-pipe is the missing link, the final chapter that is absent from both "Journey" and "Mea Culpa"... the journey opens with his decision to enlist, mea culpa closes with his willingness to enlist... Casse-pipe, as stated in the "review," is the enlistment... 70 pages of violence and cynicism. I didn't include this information in the review because it felt out of place... better to say less than to say too much. Goodbye and happy reading.
