Smashing Pumpkins Gish

What a shame to see such a debut, one of the best of the '90s, treated in such a superficial and sloppy manner; and I’m mainly referring to certain comments... But trooper, what the hell do Soulfly have to do with the Smashing? Do you really have the audacity to compare them to half-assed nu-metal like Stone Sour?! Billy Corgan wrote some pages of rock history in the last decade, a little respect please.

Milestone: one of the 20 most important albums in rock. Avant-garde and psychedelia in an ethnic-funk tangle that ideally embraces America with mother-Africa, a Babel of sounds (and voices) years ahead of the '90s musical scene of cultural melting pot, cut-and-paste, electronica, and various loops. Between the sudden unfolding of lights and colors of the day (Born under punches) and the darkness of old ancestral fears of the night (The overload, a sort of sonic tail to Kubrick’s Shining…). Epic.
Neil Young Freedom

After about ten years in which our hero had decisively lost his way, he burst onto the scene in '89 with a work finally worthy of his glorious past; the best and most varied since 'Rust never sleeps', as far as I'm concerned - the sonic blast of 'Rockin' in the free world', the unforgettable 'torn apart' riff of 'Don't cry', the atmospheric 'No more', and the heartfelt piano-voice melody of 'Wrecking ball'.... Ah, the one and only great Neil reminding us once again with anger and poetry the value of that word too often trampled upon: 'Freedom'.

What can I say… well, personally after the unparalleled 'Steve McQueen', I would place this, 'Jordan' and 'Andromeda Heights'—I believe that songs like 'The World Awake', 'Horsechimes', 'Wicked Things', 'Dublin' or 'Pearly Gates' have successfully stood the test of time (a feat that is quite more challenging for a pop song). Sylvian, these were not unreleased tracks that were left off the final tracklist of the legendary 'SM', but rather a true album recorded months before and after, left in the drawer for years; also due to the record label—if only we had such leftovers today! 'Gunman', damn, that one is really rubbish (produced even by Tony Visconti!!) Fosca, I envy that live show from '85, it’s not like they would have done many concerts afterward...

From Blackdog to Blackcrow: great review and a great record, well done! Your passion for the authentic pop art of 'Paddy' McAloon is palpable, and I rate 'Jordan: The comeback' 4 stars only because I consider 'Steve McQueen' unbeatable; right after that, I place the almost lost treasure of 'Protest songs'. 'All the world loves lovers' and 'Looking for Atlantis' have a unique melodic taste, and I would have also mentioned 'Scarlet nights', with those organ notes in the intro and as a perfect example of a pop/rock song. ;)
New York Dolls New York Dolls

'Glam-punk' defines them well, even though the five New York whores only had the look: musically they were truly ugly, dirty, and mean!! In terms of attitude, they definitely predated the punk wave that hit in 1977, and I find them quite similar to the Stooges' 'Raw Power' released the same year (the '97 remix of Iggy in person literally kicks you in the ass). Nice review.

Duty, Saltuario... For one of the musical pillars of my adolescence in the '90s, this and much more.

"<<Josi's work is 10 times better than yours, and it arrived years before yours..>> So, writing Debaser-style reviews for you is equivalent to a childish race to see who arrives 'years' earlier and is better?! Well...
Anyway, who suggested to you that I haven't read the other reviews? The Holy Spirit himself? Oh, I forgot, you're a 'ghost'!! :D
I love Radiohead; I wanted to write about them on 11/16/06 and I did it.
Come on, you were a bit worked up; just reread the 'badass' tone of your first comment: the fact that you responded to me more calmly and, how can I say, 'conciliatory' suggests that I saw it right... Hi, man. ;)"
