It’s a film much more refined than it appears "on the surface"... It’s a typically Carpenterian reflection on metempsychosis and hallucination (see female protagonist). I can’t give Carpenter anything less than four stars, absolutely not, though maybe yes (the self-parody "Escape from L.A.").
