I really don't know, flood, but my impression (not to mention, needless to say, my hope) is that something from the Pulp is going to sneak in there... In a week it premieres in London and we'll find out!

An interesting proposal indeed, an equally comprehensive review, a remarkable band name, an unsettling album title, impactful cover art. Wow...

Above all: brit-pop, mentioned twice in a thirty-five-word review, what the hell does that have to do with anything?

It's not a mopà impression: it's candidly stated within the booklet!

@colossalyouth: Cocker may be an overrated artist, but he remains an artist without an apostrophe, being masculine.

It seems to me that the idea is executed perfectly: nothing new, but well done and fun. So: bring it on. One thing though: come on, in the name of fun, don’t crush Here It Goes Again! :) Great job, anyway!

I admit my lack of knowledge about them. But I will definitely get my hands on them. Great review.

In my opinion, flood significantly hinges on the intellectual engagement of this album, the critical perspective towards many aspects of Western culture and society. If you notice, most British reviews allocate a lot of space to the analysis of the lyrics: something that happens rarely. The musical aspect always follows, it’s almost taken for "granted" (obviously Cocker writes beautiful songs), or rather: it seems that, after a slew of praise, it would be out of place to make any notes. So yes: I mostly agree with you. That said, it’s also true that the notes I’d feel inclined to make are perhaps largely dictated by the high pulp-expectations I had (you also hinted at this danger, I believe): so I preferred not to make them. The album struggles a bit to engage, it lacks those emphatic moments that pourquoipas refers to, it seems to slip away from you a little, it never pushes the boundaries. But are these (slight) shortcomings to be attributed to the album or to our pulp-centric view? Who knows: when in doubt, the defense is right...
