Crippled Black Phoenix Live @ Osteria da Tocchetto, Montebelluna (TV), 03/04/07

Who are they?? [private response: better not disclose...] Speaking of this absurd concert, here’s what Justin Greaves writes on the Myspace page of the Crippled: "....Which was the reason we were really late getting to the next gig in Montebelluna. We crossed the Alps for the first time on this tour, very nice, then raced across northern Italy, past the stink of Venice, into the dark countryside, encountering one of the best and most vicious storms we have seen. I only wish there were sharks to go with it.....imagine that. So, we thought we were lost beyond redemption but behold, we eventually got to the village/town and spotted the venue. The van turns into the alleyway to find hordes of waiting punters already tanked up to the eyeballs, banging on the van.....this was not going to be the usual type of gig; the show was held outside under a metal barn roof on the dirt floor. It was immense; this had to be my favourite show in years. We maybe didn't show it too much though due to the lack of sleep and stress of rushing to get set up then waiting because of power problems with the P.A....but I thought it was a proper grassroots show, the kind I've missed for several long years. Thanks go to the promoters for keeping the fires lit and feeding us in the early hours after the set. We didn't play the full setlist, but we have promised to return there for a very special show to say thanks and make up for the very late arrival this time. I look forward to it." We look forward to it too...

The expression "horrible phalanx of pubescents" is one I still gladly use. Just like the story of the old lady and the puzzle. Indeed, it is difficult to separate in judgment the adolescent-nostalgic component from the critical-objective one...

And welcome back, Marco. I realized that babalot, with 27 songs in 54 minutes, is just a rookie... :)

Ah, there’s no doubt about that: inter champion of this nonsense. Yes, I imagine there will be other reviews to follow, but as Mike says: the first one is the one that matters.

Since I am lacking words today, I looked for someone to quote. And I quote the sober and shareable vitalogy. I add that the last two paragraphs of the review make it a bit (unnecessarily) convoluted and masturbatory, particularly the idea that you reviewed this album just to steal it from others, like Inter did in the transfer market a few years ago...

The Portishead have been in the studio for a few months now in yet another attempt to record their third album. They've been trying for ten years. On their MySpace page, they ironically keep their fans updated on the continuous setbacks and their substantial ineptitude. Will our heroes make it?...

Wow, what a review! Yes, the essence of the album is captured perfectly: clean, meticulously crafted, impeccable, mature. No one would riot for less, especially on that one. However, that little bit of healthy, homey roughness that is usually characteristic of Oberst leaves me with a somewhat cooler impression of the old (young) Conor: 3.5.

Yes, it's no coincidence that on their latest album (to be reviewed! although, compared to this, it's lesser) they collaborated with David Bowie and Lou Reed. In short, not exactly a couple of nobodies. Great band, great album.
