Regarding the Quran: what does the Quran really say about the so-called "holy war"? Surprise: first of all, the term "holy war" absolutely does not exist in the original lexicon of Islam. The word jihad, so dear to today’s Islamic fanatics, means "struggle," and more precisely "struggle on the path of Allah." It is therefore essentially an act of resistance: resistance against the temptations of Satan. "Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, but do not exceed the limits, for indeed Allah does not love the excessive" (Quran 2:190) meaning Allah does not love extremists!

Remember that "we have a few centuries of history more. They are going through a historical phase that leads them to close themselves off, so we can only show them that nothing bad happens when you open up, quite the contrary. We will show them how it's possible to benefit from being open to other religions or philosophical currents. However, if we curl up into a ball, we will show nothing at all."

In this perspective, and without interpretation, even our religion is not reassuring! It brings forth a bloodthirsty and violent God... a worthy friend of Allah!! Extracting pieces does not mean conveying the meaning, which should be interpreted and studied not in a superficial way, especially if it is an ancient text. You want to prove that Islam is dangerous... fine, go ahead. But, as always, it’s just a partial view. I reiterate that what worries me is not how Muslims interpret it (even though this could cost me my life) but the hatred that you, as the enlightened Westerner you claim to be, radiate. Beware of these little games; they only gather dust. With affection. PS: I apologize to the Debaser community for the copy-paste and for this, albeit interesting, digression. To the anonymous friend: I’m fine with discussing the topic in a civil manner and without insults. After all, exchanging opinions is a great achievement... or is your thought to be considered absolutistic? Bye.

In my opinion, the best album by R.E.M. is Green. This has never fully convinced me.

No Michi, we're not there! I respect your taste for Consoli (of course) but come on, who else do you listen to from Italy? You claim that Italian music is garbage, but that's not true. The valid Italian artists don't make it to the majors or to the mainstream. But I assure you that Italy is not behind anyone. I could mention a few names and you can find many reviews on Debaser. Italy is not stuck on Vasco Rossi as it’s often portrayed, but it’s much, much more advanced than they would have you believe. If you want names, I can give you some without even mentioning Gazzè (who is nonetheless likable). From your review, it seems like you see Consoli as Joan of Arc, but it's unclear what music you're talking about. It feels more like a personal venting. But I repeat, Italy is rich in music for all tastes.

As for the referendum: Italy is a country that is aging, and those who are aging get their information from TV. Those who are aging are also much closer to Catholic thought than the young. Dear friend, don’t come to teach me what is my daily bread. I work in geriatrics and I talk to the elderly. You are convinced that I am leftist... okay, if it pleases you, categorize everything in the famous dualist reasoning. I am simply a healthcare worker and I am aware of the potential of research. Progress aligns with morality, and this happens often. If you voted (whether yes or no), you just fulfilled your duty as a citizen by exercising an act of direct democracy. I have done my part, not because the left told me this or the right that. One votes with conscience, my dear. You struggle to say that I’m leftist, and this gives you an idea of how little you have understood of what I have written. What I had to say to you is all in these pages, so please take the time to apply yourself. To conclude, all of this arose from an avoidable violent thought that you have dramatically expressed. If you really think the way you write, then don’t come talking to me about Western tolerance... you are the first to not know what it is. I wish you coherence... COHERENCE. I have said everything, if you wanted to understand, good; otherwise, it has been a pleasure, I will not repeat what I have already abundantly said. I will not reply... only a fool talks to himself. Goodbye.

I repeat! Few religions have approved violence in any measure. Among these, I count Islam but also Christianity (let's not pretend otherwise, please!). Doctrine and message, as you know well, do not align with the interpretations given by man. Please link me the passage from the Quran that you cite; I am very curious. From what I've read, it seemed to me that the essence was different. Even Jesus says to turn the other cheek, which seems to me that we don't do consistently. The problem is that I am frankly astonished to read violent statements toward the other (whether they are Islamic, Chinese, Japanese, American, or Neapolitan). This is violence, dear friend; you may not realize it, but it is. US and THEM. Right and wrong. Good and evil. Prehistoric dualism, linear and deductive reasoning, easy to consume and assimilate. But not everything is as you want to paint it. There are variables that cannot be considered, and often the simplest reasoning is misleading. Personally, I find it foolish to reason in a dualistic manner; I find it foolish to shut myself away in my little castle without knowing who is in front of me. I repeat, have you personally experienced situations of Arab intolerance (and I'm not talking about terrorism or armed factions, but about civilians!)? We Christians do the same. Ever heard of charismatics who ban Sai Baba because he is considered a demon (and those who believe in him)? These are not silly things... just talk to people without seeing the world through a porthole.
