Porcupine Tree Deadwing

Hi Antonio, I agree with you about the tendency towards "commercialization"... after all, the group has lost, in a certain sense, its record label independence. I don't agree about Blackfield, which is indeed a nice album but not extremely inspired... essentially a dark-pop version of Porcupine Tree. I believe the true vein of SW can be found in the IEM and Bass Communion projects where he really gives free rein to his immense brainwave. The PT remain, however, an anomalous product, leaning towards commerciality now, but with an astounding class.

By the way, I bring you some news about Nosound:
"Tim Bowness has collaborated with Nosound on a track, 'Someone Starts to Fade Away', which will be featured on Nosound's upcoming studio album, expected at the end of 2006. The track is an intense ambient ballad that combines Nosound's classic sounds with the unmistakable voice of No-Man, Centrozoon, Henry Fool, etc.
We are also collaborating with Tim on other material, the conclusion or destination of which has yet to be defined, and Stefano Panunzi will also be among the participants."

Hi Marcel, I don't think Giancarlo has particularly high fees. Anyway, I’ll tell him to swing by here and get in touch with you. Thanks for stopping by.
PS: let’s push Giancarlo in Italy! It seems that the English, a bit more attentive, have already noticed. :)

Nice mention. Italy is not lacking in innovation; it's the majors that snub the talents. Just think of a major choosing whether to release an album by Bachi Da Pietra or the latest by D'Alessio! Which of the two do you think would get promoted? That's the whole problem! Unfortunately. By the way, take a look at my review of the local NOSOUND... psychedelic post-rock that has nothing to envy to the more famous foreign bands... actually, it's better.

Naples must be experienced and not overly understood. Those who try to explain its reasons risk twisting themselves into a spiral that leads to simplification. Naples is an emotion...let's not try to understand why they come to us...they are present and that is reassuring.

I haven't read all the comments. Bogart-style review but not very convincing. Not convincing because, although that wasn't the intent, it presents a decidedly destructive picture of Naples. Naples is a city in motion with its pros and cons. A city that has been abandoned for over 100 years by an Italy that, after having formed it, has plundered it. It's sad to hear it spoken of this way, even if jokingly, about one of the most beautiful and ancient cities in Italy. But D'Alessio is not Naples! He is an expression of the "camorra" that lurks in the market... he talks about a Naples all his own, but that diverges from the true Naples described by Daniele, Gragnaniello, Barra, Senese, Sepe, Cannavacciuolo, Teresa de Sio, and so on. D'Alessio is pure market... a phenomenon that now has only the roots of being Neapolitan. Broadcast live 24/7 on national television, he is second only to Berlusconi. And if you think about it, considering the live shows he does, he sells very little!!!! Good idea for the review... but penalized by simplifications about Naples. Definitely not my favorite.

One curiosity: if I'm not mistaken, at the time the album didn't sell very well, in fact it was considered by Renzulli-Pelù themselves (that is, the vile line of Litfiba) a rather failed product. The irony is that the CD has been appreciated more over time. It's incredible how El Diablo received more acclaim than this masterpiece.

interesting psycho proposal.. FANTASTIC ending comparing Shannara to the Liberated Jerusalem...(truly brilliant). Aion is definitely a must-listen album (when I hear saltarello it's pure pleasure). Full 5 to the review, well written, interesting, and genius in the finale.

Here there was inspiration, a desire to communicate, a desire to be heard and not always discovered. 17 kings where the 17th, a piece that was supposed to appear on the album, was literally scrapped for "superstition"!!?! The lyrics are anything but trivial and the music is very interesting (Gira nel mio cerchio is stunning and original. PFM will transcribe it almost entirely as the opening of the CD Serendipity). An inspired album, and you can tell. An album where the strong influence of Marok, De Palma, and Ajazzi is evident. An album where Renzulli refines without trying to exaggerate (after all, he's not a guitar scholar!) and where even Pelù appears inspired. Basically a masterpiece that, along with Litfiba Tre and Desaparecido, concludes the career of Litfiba (the rest is negligible). An excellent product that, personally, I place alongside the true masterpiece of Diaframma, Siberia, which someone has already mentioned.
