Seen as a child, I found it unsettling. The best film adapted from Christie’s novels, with the advantage (that you have unfortunately revealed) that everyone can guess the murderer (in any case, the real murderer is the first killer, the one who dealt the fatal blow; the others are rather accomplices in the criminal scheme...).
Finney's Poirot is better than Ustinov's: less of a caricature, more in line with the character from the books.

@bamboccione: I agree, keep in mind that in my reviews of masterpieces there is always a voluntary "controversial" angle to spark debates like these. I truly believe this is the added value of the site, given that whatever is written is "glossed" in a hypertext including the comments, especially those that are reasoned and not gratuitous. To make it lighthearted, Andrea Ferreol stirs up both.

mmmm.... art is ambiguous; by definition, it has many meanings. It is only significant. I am afraid of those who seek a single, ultimate meaning in things: they fail to see that they deny the essence of art. It's not that my interpretation of Ferreri's film is completely nonsense, come on. And I didn't say it's complete rubbish either. However, if you believe that a univocal interpretation is yours, you deny that movie is art: thus, you consider it a "didactic" film; and thus you come to my side.

Actually, sorry Il_Paolo, you would have given 3.5 - I gave 5.

@Poletti: in my opinion, the reviewer did something clever by stating that the film deserves a 2 when evaluated according to objective criteria - perhaps similar to yours - [I would then say a 1], while clarifying that on a SUBJECTIVE scale he would have given it a solid 5. I do the same: subjectively, this is a 4, Ferreri's is a 3. Objectively, this gets a 1, Ferreri's a 4 - not a masterpiece. Here we always end up going back to the old dispute between subjective/objective: many thinkers have circled around it for two thousand years without solutions, it's not like I can do any better during my work breaks. Perhaps neither can you.

Good review as a start. I really enjoyed this film. Regarding some comments, you put it perfectly: "let's not spit on these works... it's like spitting on Adidas because we want to wear only Church's, or walking barefoot to be alternative, like those into barefooting - in short: stuff for fetishists of auteur cinema and not for adult, conscious consumers of feature films." You perfectly capture my thoughts!

franc.... a film like this must absolutely be seen in Italian - also to understand some nuances of the language and wordplay. If you're not Italian, keep in mind that - along with Fantozzi - this film captures the Italic "ethos" better than any other. At least that's how I see it.

Look, I would have liked to review this effort as well... given that Sandy Pearlman, producer of Blue Oyster Cult, had his hand in it. But when I heard the album for the first time this summer, I found it rather mediocre, and even with regret, to tell the truth. Too slow to be called prepunk.

I know very well that the Summer of Love ended in '69: it’s no coincidence that the first track of the first album by the Blue Oyster Cult was dedicated to the story... my very first review on this site (Transmaniacon MC). The autumn was referencing the Dead's career, who psychologically never left the age of flowers. Maybe there was too much love of synthesis in my writing... but the review was a pastiche; I was indeed missing the train.
