Yo La Tengo Ride the Tiger

I have always been perplexed by them: associated with the "alternative" scene according to some, but essentially conservative in style, and, aside from a few good songs, boring. I deleted them from my playlist: the old Grateful Dead are better.

Beautiful and balanced the review, unusual the choice.

Hats off to a reviewer - and, from what I can tell by reading you - a person of rare depth!

@Nathan: here on Debaser you’ll find various reviews of the band, which roughly reflect the general opinion of BOC. In summary: from their debut to the splendid live On Your Feet... ('75), all their albums are must-haves - mind you, if you're a fan of hard rock or rock in general - while, afterwards, their discography is negligible - though still generally valid. If you want to get an idea of how they sounded in the '80s, perhaps the best is Fire of Unknoq Origin ('81), and this, albeit with less enthusiasm.

I miss Turbo... they say it's a compromise with synth sounds and that doesn't seem good to me. For example, I don't even like the acclaimed "Defenders of the Faith." But I have a fondness for the '70s in the hard side, while starting from the '80s it's better to dive into the so-called American post-rock (Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Black Flag).

I understand it very well, and I agree with Muito. I also like Borges.

I missed it. Well done, and, above all, welcome back.

I believe that in some other posts in the group's reviews, there has been ample discussion about the similarities (few) and differences (many) between Cult and Sabbath. While respecting the latter, the former are truly great. Thank you all for the wonderful comments.
Ivan Reitman Ghostbusters - Acchiappafantasmi

Poletti, you are always heavy and offensive in your tone; come on, a little lightness... even Fellini would have criticized you. You take it out on me, or rather on my free and serene opinions, making me say more than what I think. As for your debate on objectivity: hermeneutics teaches us that there is nothing objective, you can even ask Il_Paolo (wrongly vilified by many) who astutely has a portrait of Derrida on his personal profile. Accept the rules of the game and be serene, also because, as I told you some time ago, in the long run, "Ghostbusters" and "8½" will hold the same value, getting lost in the nothingness of time.

On Amarcord, I believe I’ve said it all, dear Poletti, it doesn’t go beyond 3/5. Self-satisfied, clever, hypocritical, made by a director so inflated by four intellectuals from Via Veneto that he thinks of himself as an Author, when he was inferior to at least fifteen to twenty directors of the time: the Roberto Mancini of Italian cinema of the post-war period. This Ghostbuster at least doesn’t take itself too seriously, fulfills its duty as a commercial film - not a masterpiece but not one to be thrown away either. The quarrel you raise is the usual one: a site for music reviews written by those who want to, and, of course, "how" they want, within the limits of civil expression of their thought.
