The Pet Shop Boys have really hit the mark with this album, as far as I’m concerned. Much better than Fundamental (the last good thing they did) and in my opinion even better than Very, although the comparison isn’t quite fair. The means available at the time of Very were definitely less compared to what can be brought to the table today. But sometimes I wonder: maybe Electric, which seems to have such cool sounds, will feel out of taste in 20 years... we’ll see! For now, it remains one of the best electronic albums I’ve heard last year. And to hell with all the "serious" sounding electronica that’s fashionable today. Being able to still create something not only decent but also cool with dance music in these times means something extra to me. And the much-praised Kraftwerk may have been around longer, but as far as I’m concerned, they stopped saying anything to me after the album Computer World, which is from 1981! They should make an album today in their typical style, but knowing how to ride the wave like the PSB!
