I haven't read all the posts in the caz/francis debate, but I would like to share my personal experience regarding the labeling of a group within a genre. What a hassle: it's always a mess!
Maybe the band I'm about to review is self-produced or releases with an independent label, so I'll say they're Indie / Alternative, but maybe they play Rock, which better defines the music they make; in some tracks they do Rap, in others they give in to Electronic beats... what do I do then?
When in doubt, I click on all the genres that come to mind while listening to them.
It's obvious that the operation of labeling in a genre inevitably leads to simplifications and inaccuracies... I try to compensate by being excessive in my descriptions to provide as many references as possible.
Let’s take the "genre" for what it is, a rough indication, thus with inevitable boundary areas with others; then it's obvious that each group, upon listening, will still leave its OWN specific impression on the listener. An impression that is also different for each of us, because everyone will notice the genre aspects for which they are most receptive. Otherwise, we would never stop debating... right?

I agree with the overall judgment. I don't mind their songs, but by the time I reach the end of the album, I'm thoroughly fed up. Psycho, will you be passing through these parts again someday? (I mean in Veneto)

I prefer not to delve into certain discussions here... regarding Genoa, I'll just say that there are many things that newspapers and TV haven't yet reported. Among the kids, it's quite trendy to be right-wing, especially in the south: at the high school I attended, the majority of the boys proclaimed themselves "fascists," and the desks and walls were filled with swastikas, "patria e onore," "credere obbedire e combattere," and things like that... even here in Padua, there are plenty of guys who call themselves fascists: every so often they gather in the city center with the self-proclaimed communists and get into a bit of a scuffle... I suppose they do it just for company. :) Let's not forget that cretinism is the most cross-sectional thing in the world and doesn't belong to just one side.

Dear Cool, Caz's tastes (and not only his) on the subject can be found somewhere on this forum: Pagina non trovata and he also wrote something in the comment at the end of my review of Assalti Frontali - HSL. Bye

Devon, the Metallica PERFORMED on June 29, 2004, in Padua. By the way, it seems that the volume was VERY LOW and that the uptight mayor also banned the sale of alcohol inside. However, they also played Metal Militia (that super boring one from Kill'Em All that ends with the sound of the boots of the metallurgists marching on our world to instill terror in you... brrr!). Just for this song, it was worth being there.

Ahaahhahah!!! I knew you would respond, Caz! ;) I didn't imagine you would be so overwhelming... I also preferred the East, no doubt about it. However, as I've already said, there was something about the West that I liked, at least at the beginning, if only for the intrinsic novelty it had. I used to tape Yo! MTV Raps at midnight (in '94 and beyond) to learn more about the genre, which wasn't very widespread back then. And among the videos, there were some real gems, like "Distortion To Static" by the Roots, that made me say "who the hell are these guys?!?!?!". Different times; today there are plenty of shows that feature rap music, but, as you said, they only spread the crap... those big guys in the videos handling stacks of dollars, gold chains, the breasts and asses of over-the-top women, fancy cars... how sad.

Well, Norvheim, if only this music were listened to by 90% of the kids! The radio programming would be a little less unbearable – and more cheerful... I can't quite grasp what is "pathetic and trivial" for you in the enthusiasm that is typical of youth.

Well, I've never been attracted to him, even though objectively he's a good MC... I don't know, too many excesses in his character. But the video where he played Osama in the cave was fantastic. I think I cracked up laughing the first time I saw it. I saw his performance at the E.M.A. in Rome, and it didn't grab me; I don't know, he seemed a bit "weak" compared to usual. The piece with the Michael Jackson parody video also seemed a bit underwhelming and totally already heard. Certainly, I won't be getting this album (just like the previous ones from our guy). Damn, you're terrible! You really can't stand West's style, huh? Neither can I, but I admit that something good came out of it. I also can't stand Snoop, but Doggystyle was awesome... even The Chronic by Dre wasn't bad, come on! Moreover, you can't deny that N.W.A. had a huge influence on rap. Whether that influence was beneficial or detrimental is another story, and the negative consequences aren't all on them. Maybe you can't stand Ice Cube and Eazy E (R.I.P.) either?

One thing that has nothing to do with it: Iko, from some things you've written in the past, I can tell you belong to the category of pratikamon (qualified practitioners authorized to provide legal representation) or lawyers... am I wrong? You must be a law graduate, at least that's how it seems to me.
