Brujeria

The year was 1993, a peculiar year for metal. Black metal was emerging, and therefore experimentations by Headbangers were not widely accepted, even though nu metal was also coming into being at that time. One day, Brujeria was born, surprising everyone with collaborations from other bands and their disturbing and dark sound. A fierce metal like few others, with growl singing that is not incomprehensible, contributes to creating a monstrous album.

Particularly noteworthy are tracks like Matando Gueros, with an extremely raw sound... Very close to death metal as well as the most desperate hardcore, featuring frenetic rhythms and dizzying grooves. The themes covered are varied, including satanism, eroticism, and politics (here, as in almost all death/grind works, it leans to the far left...). There are songs that I would describe as deafening and angry, like a blow to the mouth that makes all your teeth fall out, with humorous themes but always with their dark and shocking side, Chinga tu Madre, Narcos Satánicos, Molestando Niños Muertos, among many others. Perhaps they are even complicated for the area they belong to, they are predictable, violent, gruesome but also thoughtful. Starting from the musicians that this band contains, not panic at the disco! and small fry, but rather experienced musicians. With nothing short of prestigious collaborations (see Jello Biafra).

As far as I'm concerned, Brujeria doesn't resemble anyone else, too realistic for Cannibal Corpse and too streetwise for Sepultura. Their booklets made of dead and mutilated bodies with their shocking lyrics are the calling card for the listener. But if they don't resemble anyone, there must be a reason, right? Anal Cunt pretends to be extreme and angry, around Brujeria is a cloud of mystery that says: I don't know... . Drug dealing, police, and satanism are among the many reasons they are not looked upon favorably. I wouldn't know what else to add except that the photos in their booklet I have never seen around...
