THE REVIEW

A truck driver with a baseball cap and a lumberjack checkered shirt, taps on the steering wheel following the notes of the song coming from the radio. He stops his massive truck at a sun-baked petrol station in the desert near Albuquerque, steps out into a light cloud of dust raised by his chrome-rimmed tires and heads into the bar for an icy Bud.

Night, thousands of kilometers away, a 28th-floor apartment in an American city skyscraper. Fresh out of the shower, a well-built man, shirtless, with a white towel wrapped around his waist, looks at himself in the fogged-up mirror, while grooving to the guitar solo coming out of the radio, putting his heart into playing air guitar. He's getting ready to go out and make some conquests.

Morning, from a TV set tuned to a sports-only channel, a chubby housewife in a pink tracksuit tries to follow the aerobics class: 8 Californian women in leggings, leg warmers, firm glutes, and ample chests perform exercises to the beat of music. The camera circles around them, they lie on their sides raising the right leg, rhythmically.

Friday evening, unknown location on the west coast, a clear sky flooded with stars. The hill overlooks the city whose lights pulse at night like the hearts of two lovers embraced in the Ford Mustang facing that stunning view, he calm after his orgasm, she with a baby on the way: from the radio a long guitar solo...

Scent of musk, aftershave, and sweat. Rifles and deer in the American mountain woods. Cars with exaggerated engines and chrome. Mitch's eyes in those of Peggy Sue. The ever-present radio playing a guitar solo.

This is AOR and these are Boston.

Boston

Boston are an American melodic hard rock/AOR band closely identified with founder Tom Scholz’s meticulous, technology-driven production and the soaring vocals of Brad Delp. Their 1976 self-titled debut became a blockbuster and is widely treated as a genre touchstone; later albums arrived with long gaps and drew more divided reactions.

"This eponymous album released way back in 1976 seems to be like wine because, after so many years, it is still beautiful and does not suffer at all from its 31 years of age."

"In my opinion, this album is a must-have in a rock collection because it is one of those albums that is part of the history of this genre."

It’s 1976. Five guys decide to form a band...to mix straightforward guitar phrasing with more melodic, more pop songs in the most honorable sense of the term.

No album has ever managed to embody so well...the warm and cheerful atmosphere of American summers.
