The Jesus Mary Spector & Nico
Fresh from Whorl and Velocity Girl, straddling the late eighties and early nineties, Brian Nelson, Archie Moore, and Mike Schulman formed Black Tambourine with the beautiful Pam Berry on vocals.
Schulman is also the co-founder of Slumberland Records, an independent label born in 1989, through which the few rare gems of this formation were released.
The band indeed recorded only a handful of tracks, just as many were performed live, some singles ("By Tomorrow" and "Throw Aggi Off the Bridge") and the rest ended up in oblivion. Despite this and their short-lived existence, Black Tambourine remains a seminal and reference point for much of the indie scene.
Everything that is known about the American quartet is collected in this "Complete Recordings," which features impeccable echoing pop melodies in contrast with noise sounds, guitar feedback, and typically shoegaze sound walls.
All strictly in low fidelity.
