"We are the children of Sick Fathers, eagles at the time of molting feathers. We hover mute, astonished, and hungry over the agony of a deity. Do not mock, brother, if I cry over the past, I sing the drunkenness of azure baths and the ideal that drowns in the mud."

Thus begins the debut album of the very Italian Aborym, still far from the current industrial metal of their latest albums. Far removed from the terrifying "Generator" and still anchored in a classic Black Metal with some flashes of synth and electronics, "Kali Yuga Bizarre" proves to be above average, and although still raw (especially in the keyboards, which seem to be from Bontempi) it has some very interesting points.

The album is a sort of glorification of the ancient splendor of the Roman Empire, as demonstrated by the majestic "Roma Divina Urbs", certainly the best track of the platter. The lyrics are still raw and sometimes fall into the ridiculous as in the track "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus" where the unfortunate Asmod shows all his ignorance and inability to write coherent ideas. Notable is the presence of Attila Csihar, guest here in the tracks "Darka Mysteria", "The First Four Trumpets" and "Hellraiser", always malign in his performances. From a technical standpoint, the album is varied, ranging from classic Black Metal ("Weirmacht Kali Ma", "Horrenda Peccata Christi", "Darka Mysteria") to a sort of ambient-EBM ("Hellraiser", the hypnotic "Tantra bizarre") passing through experimental moments ("The First Four Trumpet"). The vocals are entrusted to Yorga, skillful in delivering a good growl and courageous in experimenting with clean vocals.

A negative note in my opinion is that the booklet does not contain the lyrics, and among the final thanks, Nazi hierarchs are cited as a source of inspiration. Apart from these points against it, which nevertheless do not affect the overall assessment of the record, "Kali Yuga Bizarre" remains an excellent starting point for this infernal and alien Roman band, destined to open once and for all the doors of the otherworldly hell.

Aborym overturned all the rules of 'conventional' Black Metal by mixing it with experimental music or electronic genres like industrial, techno, ambient, and EBM, creating something unique—a perfect and annihilating fusion.

For me, a landmark album, inhuman, mad, sick, apocalyptic, but above all eternal, among the best not only in Italy and Europe but worldwide.
